David W. Opderbeck
Pastoral Science Scholar
David is Professor of Law and Director of the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology at Seton Hall University Law School. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Systematic and Philosophical Theology at the University of Nottingham. David’s legal teaching and scholarship focus on the regulation of access to scientific and technological information, pharmaceutical patent law, and Internet and cybersecurity policy. His theological work centers on the theology of “law” in relation to Christian theological anthropology and contemporary neurobiological science. A broad theme he is pursuing is what it means to be flourishing, accountable, moral, worshiping agent in connection with what evolutionary biology and the neurosciences tell us about the “natural history” of the human species. An even broader theme is what we really mean, in theological and philosophical terms, by words like “nature,” “law,” and “human.” David blogs about these themes, and about other things that catch his fancy, at Through a Glass Darkly.
