Bem Culiat

Chair

Dr. Cymbeline (Bem) Culiat studied the genetic and molecular basis of early mammalian development for nearly a decade as a senior scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Her studies led to the discovery of the role of the NELL1 signaling protein in pathways controlling the growth and maturation of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems. This discovery is the foundation on which NellOne Therapeutics (NellOne) was established in 2008. Dr. Culiat is the inventor on various patents related to the clinical applications of the NELL1 protein in skeletal muscle wound healing and treatment of cardiovascular disorders. These patents were exclusively licensed to NellOne on a worldwide basis. See more >>

I am very excited to be on the board of the Center for Pastoral Science.  As a Christian pastor I want to be ‘reading’ all that God has authored. The truth woven into the book of the cosmos gives me more with which to know and love him.  I believe all Christians are meant to know God through this created text.  And I’m passionate to be part of something that will help make that happen.

John is the founding pastor of New Hope Christian Reformed Church in Calgary. His passion lies at the intersection of God’s word in the bible and God’s word in creation. For the past six years – mostly through Sunday sermons – he has been exploring how these two books complement, co-illumine and counter balance one another. Over the years he has preached on many different creation texts; Hollywood films, classical and contemporary music, sport, art, the the body’s immune system, Parkinson’s disease, Sequoia Sempervirens #40;a Redwood tree), the honey bee, architecture, the city, and several messages on science. His podcasts have been popular throughout North America and he currently is the recipient of a Templeton Science in Congregations grant

I decided to join this board because God is speaking through all creation, and it’s vital that the church learn how to listen to what God is saying through the revelations discovered by science, so that both our worship and our ethics can be informed by ALL God’s truth.
