T he Center for Pastoral Science promotes accelerated transformative change in pastoral equipping through a relational collaborative approach that engages the pastor intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually with colleagues, scientists, and topic experts. It expands collaborative opportunities from pastoral cohorts to incorporate youth in science, career scientists, and theological scholars. Specific activities include: the identification and spread of best practices in congregational science-faith dialogue through technical assistance and cohort opportunities with pastors and scientists; the “Faithful Scientist” career development initiative matching young adults with rigorous scientists in summer internships; the “Pastoral Science Scholar” offering mid-career pastors and scientists study opportunities in science-faith issues; and the shaping of resources through distant and on-site applications. The Center for Pastoral Science will serve as a nexus for the alignment of current work in the science-faith arena without duplication. Through partnerships with academic institutions, foundations, churches, denominations, and community organizations, the activities will result in permanent positive engagements promoting a vigorous science-faith Christian communal dialogue.
